Description

The Colt Official Police was formally introduced in 1927 as a medium framed, double-action revolver with a six round cylinder and mostly chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. The Official Police is essentially a slightly modified version of the 1908 Army Special model, or “New Army”. Colt’s strategy behind the name change was to focus marketing to the law enforcement agency after the Army and other military branches began to adopt the U.S. M1911 pistol. While the revolver saw action in World War II in the hands of both American and British soldiers, the Official Police’s foremost success was found in the law enforcement market. Along with Colt’s Police Positive model, the Official Police dominated this marketplace from the late 1920s-1960s.
