Description
Nicknamed the “Krinkov”, the AKS-74U is an interesting firearm that inhabits the gray area between small assault rifle and sub-machine gun. The AKS-74U is the carbine version of the AK-74 (with a collapsible buttstock) that was developed in the early 1970s by Mikhail Kalashnikov. The AK-74 was the successor of the AKM, which itself, was the descendant of the legendary AK-47. In the late 1970s the AKS-74U was developed to equip non-frontline forces with a reliable defensive weapon that was small enough to comfortably carry while not sacrificing too much stopping power. The AKS-74U has found a home among militaries and law enforcement agencies across Russia and the former USSR satellite states due to its SMG-like compactness compiled with assault rifle ammunition power.
