Although recently discontinued, the Winchester 1894 was not only the first sporting rifle in history to sell over 7,000,000 units but is also the best-selling high-powered rifle in U.S. history. The Winchester 1894 was the first hunting rifle chambered for the (then) new smokeless powder cartridges. Originally, it was produced for the .32-40 Winchester, .38-55 Winchester, .25-35 Winchester, .32 Winchester Special and most notably, the .30-30 Winchester. Later models of the 94’s were manufactured in handgun calibers such as .38 Special/.357 Magnum, .44 Special/.44 Magnum, .45 Colt and the .44-40 Winchester. Many found these calibers especially appealing since they had the luxury of carrying the same ammo for both their rifle and sidearm. As with many of the 19th century lever action rifles produced by Winchester, this firearm saw extensive use by law enforcement officers, huntsman, sport-shooters and military personnel alike.
